MG Rail honored with distinguished ‘Jake Award – With Distinction’
MG Rail was recently honored with the ‘Jake Railroad – With Distinction’ award by the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA). This honor is in recognition of MG Rail’s commitment to safety and for achieving an injury ratio less than or equal to the national average (2.31 per 200,000 hours of on duty service) last year, with zero reportable incidents.
Jake Safety Award
Safety is critically important to the short line and regional railroad industry and we wish to congratulate our “Jake” and “Jake with Distinction” Safety Awards winners! In an effort to recognize and bring greater visibility to our safest railroads, ASLRRA’s “Jake” Safety Awards are now being presented regionally at the fall meetings. To be honored with a Jake Award an ASLRRA member railroad must perform better than the Class II and III industry average injury frequency rate as reported by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) during the prior year.
In 2024, a record 394 ASLRRA member railroads earned a Jake Award, with 347 railroads, also a record, earning the ‘with Distinction’ title, denoting zero reportable accidents. The average accident rate, 3.21, decreased from the 2023 rate of 3.28, making earning a Jake Award even more difficult.
