History

MG Rail, Inc. began serving customers in the Port of Indiana – Jeffersonville in 1985 when the facility opened. Our operation began with one locomotive and handled approximately 1,000 cars.

  • 1985 Merchants Grain built their grain facility at the POI Jeffersonville and established MG Rail
  • 1990 CGB acquired the Jeffersonville business from Merchants Grain and “MG Rail” with it.
  • 1992 POI Jeffersonville formed their own Railroad charter called the Clark Shortline Railroad Company
    • Objective was to establish rail service stability and help coordinate traffic for the POI Jeffersonville
    • MG Rail became the contract operator for the POI’s RR Company.
  • 1994 Conrail was broken up and sold off with local trackage right to the Louisville and Indiana RR (LIRC)
  • 2003 POI first Agreement with MG Rail, Inc. (under CGB ownership) for Track Use Agreement established.
