MG Rail receives ‘Jake Award – With Distinction’ in recognition of safety report for 2025
MG Rail has received the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association’s ‘Jake Award – With Distinction’ for 2025. This award once again recognizes MG Rail’s safety record of zero reportable injuries for 2025. MG Rail was among a record-breaking 371 ASLRRA member railroads earning the highest distinction.
Safety is a Priority
To be honored with a Jake Award, an ASLRRA member railroad must perform better than the Class II and III industry average injury frequency rate, as reported by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) during the prior year. In 2025, the injury frequency rate average was 2.24. This is a rate reduction of 3% for each of the past two years.
As Chuck Baker, President of ASLRRA states, “What stands out this year is that the average industry injury frequency rate has declined once again, raising the bar even higher for earning a Jake Award. Even so, more short line railroads than ever before, 418 to be exact, achieved injury rates below the industry average, and a record-high 371 reported zero injuries. Zero is remarkable! We are pleased that the numbers are reflecting the unrelenting efforts made by short line railroads throughout the country as they each seek to achieve zero injuries in an unforgiving environment.”
