MG Rail, Inc. is governed by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and strictly adheres to the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49 for Transportation. As MG Rail is a subsidiary of Consolidated Grain and Barge Co. (CGB), it follows the CGB corporate safety program. This program is based upon the Dupont, world renowned safety system. Corporately, our record of low recordable injuries is class-leading for grain, stevedoring, terminaling, and processing operations.

MG Rail, Inc. is subject to its parent company’s internal safety and compliance audit programs.

Environmental Stewardship & ESG Initiatives

MG Rail, Inc. as a CGB subsidiary, recognizes Sustainability as an evolution of continuous improvement in terms of our impact on society and the environment.

Environmental Governance and Stewardship Policies

  • MG Rail, Inc. completes monthly inspections and logs the findings on the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) forms for diesel tank, used oil tote, oil containment pallets under 55g drums, etc.
  • Spill Prevention and Response Policies- Align with the Oil Pollution Act. Requirements are outlined in a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC) and Spill Response Procedure (SRP).
  • Storm Water and Wastewater Permits and Recordkeeping- Align with the Clean Water Act and are maintained under a storm water/wastewater permit, SWPPP, SWPPP summary, or storm water permit guidelines.
  • Waste Management and Disposal Policies- Outline proper disposal of waste in an environmentally safe manor (i.e., landfill, hazardous waste, special waste, recycling, etc.)

Our Sustainability Strategy aims to (1) identify and assess material Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues that are important to the sustained growth of our business and the communities in which we operate, and (2) determine and implement measures that respond to those issues in an organized and measurable manner; both enterprise-wide and through business division-focused actions.
